What Really Hurts

Daxjorn and Braxyd exited the meeting room before the others. They both saw Maxsodin sitting outside the door.
Braxyd glared at her. "What are you doing here, Max? Go somewhere on your own for once!"
Daxjorn looked at him. She knew how much they cared about each other. Why were they expressing it through badgering the other?
Maxsodin lifted her head and stared Braxyd down.
"You lied."
Daxjorn's jaw almost fell to the ground in surprise. She hadn't heard Maxsodin talk since Braxyd had attacked her. Braxyd, on the other hand, didn't look the least bit phased.
"Lied?" he asked. They were both staring daggers at one another. Daxjorn felt her temper rising. Why couldn't they just talk it out without spite!?
Maxsodin threw back her hood and shook her hair. The stare was broken for a moment, then she mended it once more.
"You aren't going to simply practice your powers, you and Daxjorn." She gave Daxjorn a glance so venomous it made her flinch. "You lied."
Braxyd shrugged as if it wasn't a big deal. "So?" The murder in his glare was revamped.
Maxsodin let out a shuddering sighed and dropped her gaze. She looked back up, injury plain in her eyes.
"Why couldn't you tell me, of all people!?"
Braxyd's stare wavered a bit, and for a moment Daxjorn thought they would actually talk it out and make up. Then he answered coldly.
"Because Max." he said. "You're like... this." he gestured to her figure, huddled against the wall.
There was tense silence after the statement. Daxjorn wanted to help, but she knew it had gone too far.
After a moment, the hate returned to Maxsodin's eyes, glazed with something that could only be pain.
"That hurts, Brax." she said, he voice deceptively neutral.
Braxyd didn't even seemed to notice how much he had injured Max. "As it should." he said, and stalked off.
Daxjorn lingered for a second, trying to conjure up some comforting words for Maxsodin. She could find none, and followed Braxyd down the hall.
