I clung to the last horrifying wisps of unconsciousness, until they were all gone. All that was holding the world back was my shut eyes.
I snapped them open and suppressed a scream. Surely I was dead. Faded. Gone. No more. It took me the longest time to realize that I was breathing. Oh god, I wasn't dead!
I became dizzy with relief and horror all at the same time. Oh god no, it wasn't over!
I took me forever to get a grip; it was so hard to do now a days. I took stock of where I was.
I was in a room, on a bed, alone. Correction, I was locked in a room, strapped to a bed, left to die. That nursed my injured pride a little better.
I submerged myself in the feelings of desolation and nevermore. It gave reason to everything I was doing, planning on doing. See, I heard myself think, they don't care for you at all. Go on, kill them. But that persistent doubt was still there. Morals, Xemnas said they were. Weakness.
That was the last straw. I couldn't have weakness. I concentrated all my energy on the straps holding me down. They were eaten away by the darkness and I jumped from the bed, landing on my feet and ready for action. Well at least I was until I became aware of how drained my strength was as I stumbled on my first step and fell to my hands and knees, breathing hard to keep a hold on my fragile consciousness.
There must have been a camera or something I overlooked, for as I stood back up, leaning heavily on the bed for support, Nexan, Xahssa, and Xahnan burst into the room. They all froze as I locked eyes with them. I could see the unsureness in their eyes and their hesitation to make any assumptions. This was the perfect opportunity to do what Xemnas said. To kill them. But I couldn't bing myself to make the first move.
"Max..." Nexan took a step towards me. I felt myself take a step back, even though every fiber of my being was screaming to lunge forward and grab her shoulder and disintegrate her.
Nexan hesitated once more as she saw me step back. She looked into my eyes. I hoped she couldn't see how much conflict was going on inside myself. It was a vain wish.
"Xahssa..." Nexan said without taking her sympathetic gaze off of me. "Go get the others. Tell them.... tell them Max is awake."
